I have been rereading a book that has been on my shelf for a while called “Unplug the Christmas Machine.” The authors, Jo Robinson and Jean Coppock Staeheli, accurately describe the power that the business of Christmas has over us.

The latter part of August, I had an estate sale at my late parent’s house. As the house was emptied out and I signed the contract to put the house on market, the sense of loss was overwhelming. My parents did not have valuable possessions and their home was a modest home, but everything seemed to have a memory.
